During the past two decades, Turkey has made a qualitative leap in the economy, which made it an important country among the twenty countries that affect the global economy. Therefore, obtaining Turkish citizenship has become a dream that many people enjoy, because Turkish citizenship allows its holder to benefit from the economic, social and health benefits guaranteed by the government to its citizens, in addition to All the facilities provided by the government that allow industrialists and businessmen to benefit from the Turkish economic renaissance.

Accordingly, the Turkish legislator has defined the cases through which a foreigner is entitled to apply for Turkish citizenship in accordance with legal foundations and criteria whose conditions must be fulfilled and completed.

·         Law No. 5901 specifically identified these cases, as follows:
·         Naturalization by the Ottoman and Turkish origins.
·         Uninterrupted residence on the territory of the Turkish Republic.
·         Naturalization by marriage to a Turkish citizen or citizen.
·         Naturalization by adoption.
·         Granting Turkish citizenship by decision of the competent authority.
·         Re-acquisition of Turkish citizenship.
·         Obtaining Turkish citizenship by investment.

The following is an explanation of that:
First: obtaining Turkish citizenship through Ottoman or Turkish origins
The Turkish government has allowed every foreigner who has Ottoman or Turkish assets and who desires to obtain Turkish citizenship to prove the relationship of kinship to one of his grandparents who hold Ottoman or Turkish assets by highlighting all the documents that prove these assets.
Therefore, it is required to secure all the required documents and translate them with a sworn translation and authentication of these papers from the notary (noter) and then certify them with the office of the place of affiliate of them, and submit a request in the Directorate of Souls and Nationality, and there are cases that are necessary to file a lawsuit to prove kinship (then resort to the judiciary To prove it by analyzing the DNA.


Also, Turkish embassies and consulates abroad may receive naturalization applications attached to the aforementioned documents according to the same conditions without the need for the person requesting naturalization to come to Turkish territory.
In the absence of these papers with the person wishing to obtain Turkish citizenship, the Turkish government has enabled the search of its archives for any evidence or document proving this.



Second: Naturalization through continuous (uninterrupted) residence in Turkey
Article 11 of the Turkish Nationality Law stipulates that a foreigner who wishes to obtain Turkish citizenship must fulfill special conditions for obtaining citizenship through residency in Turkey.
After making sure that he is not among the people who pose a threat to national security and public order, and has made a commitment to respect the laws and regulations in force in Turkey, he is granted citizenship.

Conditions must be met according to the following:

That the applicant has the legal capacity to act in accordance with his national law (the home country) and in the event of statelessness, eligibility is in accordance with Turkish law.
The fulfillment of the condition of residing in the territory of the Turkish Republic for a period of five years without interruption, but the law permits a foreigner to leave Turkish territory for a period not exceeding a total of 360 days during the period of full residency.
The applicant must prove his intention of permanent and permanent residence in Turkey, and the competent authority inferred this desire from several clues, for example (buying a property, commercial activity in Turkey ... etc)

That the naturalization student possesses sufficient ability to speak the Turkish language, and the law does not require fluency, it suffices to the extent that allows him to be able to practice his daily life and communicate with his environment and surroundings.
That he has an income or profession with a legal source that makes him able to support himself and his dependents in Turkey.

The naturalization applicant is free of any communicable diseases, or it could affect the public health, according to examinations at an accredited hospital or medical center.
To enjoy good manners and good conduct, as the relevant authorities search and investigate to verify this.

That he is the owner of a clean criminal record (not adjudicated) in the sense that he has not been issued against him by the Turkish judiciary any judgment affecting criminal, economic or political security and that he has not been imprisoned based on a criminal background.
(One of the most important things to look for is the cleanliness of the criminal record, which is the most important requirement of the Turkish government during the consideration of the naturalization file).


Third: Naturalization by marriage to a Turkish citizen or citizen
According to Article 16 of the Turkish Citizenship Law, a foreigner who married a Turkish citizen or citizen can apply for Turkish citizenship, but citizenship is not obtained by simply marrying a Turkish citizen automatically, as after ensuring that the marriage does not constitute a threat to national security or Public order There must be specific conditions within the law, namely:
Ensure that the marriage is based on the intention of forming a real and continuous family.

That the marital life is based on familiarity, love and the continuation of the spouses as a family consistent and compatible with each other and far from all that suggests the occurrence of separation or discord. Among the things evidenced by the competent authorities on this are the presence of children, housing in one house, and the absence of contentious cases between the two parties.
 The continuation of the marital life between the spouses at least for a period of three years effectively, and the marital relationship still exists.

However, it must be noted that in the event that one of the spouses of Turkish citizenship dies after completing the conditions and applying for Turkish citizenship, the government does not have to ascertain the condition that the marriage was with the intention of establishing the family.
